New Moon
November 14, 2020 – January 2, 2021
A new moon represents the end of one lunation and the beginning of a new 28-day cycle. Contrasting the full moon, when all is exposed, the new moon projects the powerful energy of darkness. In thinking about this first exhibition, opening on the day of the super new moon in Scorpio, I found a powerful connection to the symbolism of the valley that inspired the gallery’s name. A valley is a space that lies in shadow, abundant with restorative energy. A place to rest and begin again, safe from the sun and in the shade of the mountain.
New Moon features thirteen artists from around the country, many of whom will present solo or two-person exhibitions in 2021. With this collection of works, we hope to introduce a vision for the future of the gallery. Connections to the mystical and esoteric abound, as well as to the land, and to craft practices both learned and inherited.
On behalf of The Valley and the artists in New Moon, thank you for sharing this beginning with us.
